Our understanding of the Mission Field is derived from the life of Jesus, especially as demonstrated in Matthew 22:34-40 and John 4:34-35. “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
Disciples at Aldersgate have identified four areas of focus in which to share the love of God outside of the church: McMurry University, Bowie Elementary, Our Neighborhoods and Aldersgate Academy. Scroll down on this page to learn more about each area of the mission field.
This community of faith subscribes to the philosophy that whatever a person does — or does not do — to nurture his or her own spiritual development during the college experience has crucial and long-lasting effects on the ability to develop healthy habits and relationships throughout life.To that end, various ministries are developing to provide support and encouragement to our friends who are studying at McMurry University and other area colleges. For more information about participating in this ministry, contact Kyle Watson.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14) With this truth in mind, various teams from Aldersgate have organized to show God’s love to the children, teachers, staff and families of Bowie Elementary, the neighborhood school. For more information about participating in this ministry, contact Amy Wilson Feltz.
Jesus commanded us all to love God and to love our neighbors. (Mark 12:31) At Aldersgate, this commandment comes to life through various ministries that are designed to show God’s love to our neighbors in real and tangible ways.
The Open Door Community Garden, which is located at South 19th and Amarillo Streets, is the most visible manifestation of our neighborhood ministry. A garden work day is held every 2nd Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon. All are welcome to come and work in the garden on those days, and all are welcome to come and pick what is ripe in the garden, any day! For more information about participating in this ministry, contact Amy Wilson Feltz.
Every week, 125 families entrust Aldersgate Academy with their precious children. Through the educational curriculum and the daily chapel component, the children learn that God loves them and that we love them, too! The children’s guardians are part of this mission field, as well, as they raise their children amid full schedules and life’s various challenges. For more information, please contact Carol Rogers.
