Renewers
Class
“We plan to make new again, or RENEW our covenant with God to be true children of God and disciples of Christ by RENEWING friendship in fellowship and RENEWING our commitment to Christ and our church.”
This is the covenant adopted by the class when it was organized in the early 1970’s. Class membership is open for both singles and couples. Most, but not all, of our membership is retired.
A wide range of subjects and teaching styles are enjoyed by the class. Teaching responsibility is rotated among a few members of the class and a number of non-members including McMurry professors, retired pastors, and other vital and interesting leaders from the community. They may teach for 1 to 4 Sundays. Subject matter is usually a particular book of the Bible and how the Biblical principles can be manifested in our lives. Some of the teachers conduct a lecture type class, while others lean toward a lecture/discussion style.
An offering is taken each Sunday, with the proceeds used to help support Meals on Wheels, the Methodist Service Center, Noah Project, Salvation Army, Love and Care Mission, and Butman Camp. Two one-semester scholarships are awarded each year to deserving McMurry students. Once a quarter, we prepare and serve Sunday lunch to the people attending worship service at The Mission. During December, the class enjoys providing “Christmas” for a needy family.
We enjoy being together and have two or more informal dinner parties during the year. We go to concerts and plays together, both locally and out of town. Some of the men have breakfast together every Wednesday morning. The women meet four or five times a year to have lunch and participate in a service project. Many members of our class are involved in the ministries of the church and participate in volunteer activities in the church and community.
