UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The tradition of the United Methodist Women dates back to 1875 when Lizzie Borden formed the Woman’s Missionary Association of the United Brethren Church to address needs in Sierra Leone. Today, the organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
At Aldersgate, a general meeting takes place on the first Tuesday of every month and includes a light meal. All are welcome.
The women are organized into smaller groups called circles to grow together and to go about the work of the church. These groups meet monthly at various times and places.
Our annual Rummage Sale takes place in the first weekend in October and raises money for missional efforts in Abilene and around the world!
